Training programme on Natural farming for Krishi Sakhis/CRPs under the National Mission on Natural Farming at KVK Ropar

Punjab Agricultural University-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Ropar under the guidance of Director of Extension Education, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana conducted a five days training course on Natural farming for Krishi Sakhis/CRPs from 25-29th August, 2025. The training was carried under the National Mission on Natural Farming with support from the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Ropar. A total of 19 krishi sakhis/CRPs including one master trainer from different blocks of district Ropar successfully completed the training.  

On the inaugural day of the training program, Dr. Satbir Singh, Associate Director (Training) at the Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Ropar, extended a warm welcome to all participants and provided valuable insights into the importance of natural farming for the sustainability of agriculture and soil health. The training sessions were coordinated by Dr. Urvi Sharma, Assistant Professor (Plant Protection) and Dr. Sanjeev Ahuja, Associate Professor (Vegetable Science). The technical aspects regarding the scope and necessity of natural farming, along with its principles and tools, were thoroughly discussed. Additionally, practical sessions were conducted on the preparation of various bioinputs utilized in natural farming, such as Beezamrit, Jeevamrit, Ghanjeevamrit, Neemastra, and Bhramastra, with active involvement from the trainees.

Dr Aparna Gupta, Professor (Animal Science), Dr Ankurdeep Preety, Assistant Professor (Agroforestry) and Mr Jagmanjot Singh, Assistant Professor (Soil Science) detailed the trainees on the role of cattle, trees and soil health in natural farming as per their respective disciplines. The expert talk on natural farming was delivered by Dr Amandeep Sidhu, Agronomist, School of Organic Farming, PAU Ludhiana.

The training was graced by special guest Dr GPS Sodhi, Additional Director of Extension Education, PAU Ludhiana who motivated the trainees to work at a grassroots level in the farmer’s field.

As part of the practical component, an exposure visit of trainees to progressive farmer Sh. Gurjit Singh Dhir practicing organic and natural farming at Village Khalidpur, Ropar was carried out, where they observed live demonstrations on crops and bioinput preparations. The visit experienced the best practices and field level implementation of natural practices.

The team (Dr Pankaj Singh, Dr Parminder Cheema, Dr Sukhsagar and Mrs Ramandeep) from the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Ropar made regular efforts in the successful execution of the training programme.
